The Grand Holi 2019 in Taipei
Thanks for Out of India Indian Restaurant’s invitation for me to be part of the event this time!
I’ve helped hosting before but being part of the organizer team, it’s the very first time, and realized it’s really not easy to make an outdoor event.
First challenge is the weather. The time for Holi in India is usually during REAL spring, but the definition of SPRING in Taiwan is obviously slightly different — we still have cold fronts to visit the island from time to time until April, so I believe each Holi party in town isn’t an easy task — for the changeable weather in Taiwan.
Other than this, performances and venue selection/setting also takes time and experience. After a date fixed, performance is the other important part to handle — We’ve got many fantastic performers in town but not all are available in that day, and even if they can come, still there are preferred time slot. Based on this condition the agenda should be set — concerning performance types and audience mood cultivation (for party). Gladly regarding this, we have the party master Riya to take care! Being an experienced dance teacher, Riya doesn’t only know many event organizers but also friends with many performers. That’s how the awesome lineup can be presented.
I don’t know all of the performers, but I’m sure these performers must have great passion for promoting Indian culture! Many of them are actually celebrated performers on major official events or full time professional dancers with tight schedule, but they made it yesterday! So much appreciation for these kind hearts!
Except for this, I’m also grateful we’ve got such an amazing DJ. A good Indian party can’t complete without mass dance, and a good mass dance relies 90% on DJ’s job. We’re so glad to have Abhishek with us yesterday! As a guest, usually people are not aware of the DJ, because people totally immerse into the beats; only until there’s problem do people start to notice and complain. DJ Abhi is no doubt the soul of our party yesterday. He totally nailed it from Bollywood to Kollywood, from Indian to Western, he mixed it so well and enabled the guests from different regions/countries dance to their favorite beats.
Most important, being part of the team, I really wanted to say thank you to each and every participant. The weather should have stopped many to come, but those who showed up yesterday simply brightened the day and it’s you that made the party so great and memorable!!!!! Especially seeing those dancing in the rain, it’s simply like bollywood scene — despite the temperature difference lol — but I guess most of people, including me — didn’t feel the coldness at all, because we’re all zealous party animals and we enjoyed so much yesterday😛
Last, but not the least, is the boss of the whole event, Andy bhai! The one who made the ideas come true with all resources- from venue, food, tickets and everything. We’ve got many discussions and ideas sharing, in between had some work meetings as well. Instead of a “boss-boss”, he gave us so much space and support and always put Holi lovers’ preference in the first priority — Having fun is the most important — the more come the more we can provide. It’s really an wonderful cooperation with Andy this time and we’ve started to expect more to come.
